Parking Sign

Free Downtown Parking Option for Veterans with Appointments

Free downtown parking is available for Veterans with appointments at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center. This parking garage—located at 26 SE 1st St., Miami, FL 33131—is serviced by three shuttles that run continuously Monday – Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The shuttle ride is approximately 15 - 20 minutes. Veterans with appointments between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. are encouraged to go directly to the new parking garage and take the free shuttle to the main hospital. Veterans who are mobility-impaired are encouraged to park at the main hospital. For more information, please click here.

Tram Service

A free Tram Service is available in our West Parking Lot for patients and their guests Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Two pick-up stations are located near the West Parking Lot entrance. Patients and guests are dropped off near the West Patio. Tram riders must wear seatbelts.


The parent facility for the Miami VA Healthcare System is located on 26 acres in the Miami Civic Center Medical Complex. The Miami VA Healthcare System has two satellite clinics located in Sunrise and Key West and Community Based Clinics located in Pembroke PinesKey LargoHollywoodDeerfield Beach, and Homestead.

Waiting Areas and Visiting Hours

For your convenience and safety, we have special waiting areas throughout the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center. Please do not gather in the hallways or at the nurses' stations. We have an open visitation policy, without specific hours. However certain units have special requirements. Please check with nursing staff upon your arrival. We have volunteers who work in the Intensive Care waiting areas at specific times. Please check in, and give the volunteer the patient's name. If you leave the waiting area at any time, please let the volunteer know, in case we need to contact you.


The Miami VA Healthcare System has a Police Service with officers who provide 24-hour patrols of the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center and its parking lots. For general police assistance, please dial extension 3661. In case of an emergency, dial extension 3333. Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses to the VA Police while on the facility grounds as soon as possible.

Because the Miami VA Healthcare System is federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search. In addition, weapons, alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited.

Lost and Found

Lost and Found is located in room A146 on the first floor. You may also contact them at extension 3478.


A nondenominational chapel is located on the second floor of the hospital. Protestant Worship Services and Catholic Mass are held on a regular basis. For more information or to speak with one of our Chaplains please contact Chaplain Service at 305-575-7000, ext. 4258.

Smoking Policy

The Miami VA Healthcare System and its facilities are smoke-free. Smoking by employees, visitors, service organization representatives, vendors, contract workers, volunteers and patients is prohibited in any of the Miami VA Healthcare System facilities.

There are designated smoking areas located outside the facilities.
