Creating Thanksgiving Memories
10 memories. That’s what Charles Brantley helped bring to 10 families for Thanksgiving when, as part of a Miami VA Healthcare System Thanksgiving food drive, he helped collect, sort and deliver boxes of food to local families for the holiday.
“I’ve been doing this for 5 years,” said the Air Force Veteran. “It’s always something I will do, it’s just part of the way I was raised.”
Turkeys, stuffing, canned goods and more were donated by staff and patients of the Miami VA during November for the food drive.
“My mom always said that if you are ever in a position to help someone, you do it,” he recalled. “It’s just that simple.”
For Brantley, Thanksgiving is about family and memories and this is a chance to help families in need create their own holiday memories. The way he looks at it, when he needed help in his life someone was there. Now it’s his turn.
“I can’t describe it, to see the look on someone’s face when we deliver a box of food,” he said. “I’ve been blessed and this is a way to give thanks. Whether I’m working here, somewhere else or nowhere, next year I’ll be doing this again.”
