Honoring Service and Sacrifice
Georgie Carter Krell, with her son's Medal of Honor flag more than 40 years after her son died in combat saving his fellow Marines.
More than 40 years after the mother of Marine Corps Pfc. Bruce Carter was presented with her son’s Medal of Honor, Ms. Georgie Carter-Krell was presented with the official Medal of Honor flag from Marine Corps General John F. Kelly, Commanding Officer at U.S. Southern Command.
The Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, has been awarded to 3,467 service members since its inception in 1862. Fewer than 100 are still living. Pfc. Carter was the only Medal of Honor recipient from South Florida during the Vietnam War.
