The Miami VA Healthcare System’s Voluntary Service is accepting applications for its annual Summer Student Volunteer Program.

The program gives young adults the opportunity to learn about America’s Veterans and their military service, while working alongside VA staff in providing the best health care to our nation’s heroes.

“The program is designed to not only give students community service hours for school, but it’s an introduction to the everyday workforce,” said Mernie Williams, Miami VA Voluntary Service acting chief. “It also teaches them accountability, responsibility and allows them to get a glimpse into how our VA staff care for our valued Veterans each and every day. We want it to be an experience they’ll forever cherish and never forget. Student volunteer vacancies will fill up very quickly. It’s first come, first serve, so students should apply as soon as possible.”

Students interested in applying must be 14 to 18 years of age. Applicants will be interviewed to determine suitability and availability according to facility needs. The deadline for submitting a completed application package is May 30.
