Miami VA Spreads Holiday Cheer
Miami VA helps one family celebrate the holidays
The holidays are a time of year for good ideas – especially ideas that help those in need. For the Quality Management Service at the Miami VA Healthcare System, adopting a Veteran in need was the perfect idea. The more they talked about it the more staff got involved, pretty soon the whole service was excited in being able to make the Holidays special for one family.
With assistance from Social Work Service, an Iraq War Veteran* was identified who could use a little help this holiday season. He is currently waiting for benefits, has no income and wanted to give his family: a fiancé and two children; a nice holiday surprise.
The family was invited to the Miami VA to take part in a Quality Management Service Holiday celebration Dec. 15 and during the celebration Gloria Lewis introduced the two time Iraq War Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient.
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation for your service to our country and for maintaining our freedoms,” she said.” As Americans we salute you.”
The staff was honored to share their Holiday celebration with them, a meal and gifts for them and the children. After all that is what the Holidays are about.
“We are hoping that this will inspire all services throughout our organization and they will join us next year in spreading the Holiday spirit”, stated Gloria.
