Miami VAHS Fisher House

The Miami VA Fisher House is "a home away from home" for families of Veterans and military Servicemembers receiving care at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center.  The Fisher House enables family members to be close to their loved ones during hospitalization, by providing comfortable lodging, in a beautiful and relaxing setting, only steps away from the medical center. There is no charge for families staying at the Fisher House.

The Miami VA Fisher House opened for guests on Sept. 13, 2010. After the groundbreaking in March 2009, construction of the Miami VA Fisher House began on the southwest side of the Bruce W. Carter Medical Center grounds in June 2009 and was completed the summer of 2010. As the 17th VA Fisher House, The Miami VA Fisher House joins a network of 52 other Fisher Houses at military and VA medical centers across the nation.

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The Fisher House Foundation donates these "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers.  The local community is asked to raise a portion of the cost of a Fisher House, and the Fisher House Foundation contributes the rest. Miami-Dade’s County Commissioners, non-profit foundations, businesses, Veterans Service Organizations, community members, and Congressional delegations were responsive to the need for a Fisher House in Miami. We thank them for their assistance in reaching our fund raising goal of $2 million. For more information on the Fisher House Foundation, please visit www.fisherhouse.org *.
