The Miami VAHS Fisher House is "a home away from home" for families of Veterans and military service members receiving care at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center. The Fisher House enables family members to be close to their loved one during hospitalization by providing comfortable lodging, in a beautiful and relaxing setting, only steps away from the Medical Center. There is no charge for families staying at the Fisher House.
The Miami VAHS Fisher House opened for guests on September 13, 2010. After the groundbreaking in March 2009, construction of the Miami VAHS Fisher House began on the southwest side of the Bruce W. Carter Medical Center grounds in June 2009 and was completed the summer of 2010. As the 17th VA Fisher House, The Miami VAHS Fisher House joins a network of 52 other Fisher Houses at military and VA medical centers.
The Miami VAHS Fisher House was officially dedicated during a ribbon cutting ceremony November 17, 2010.

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The Fisher House Foundation donates these "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. The local community is asked to raise a portion of the cost of a Fisher House, and the Fisher House Foundation contributes the rest. Miami-Dade’s County Commissioners, non-profit foundations, businesses, Veterans Service Organizations, members of our community, and Congressional delegations were responsive to the need for a Fisher House in Miami. We thank them for their assistance in reaching our fund raising goal of $2 million dollars. For more information on the Fisher House Foundation, please visit www.fisherhouse.org.
