Volunteer Assignments

Audiology & Speech Pathology Service:

Clerk – Volunteer will call patients to remind them of their appointments, and possible light scheduling. Must have a clear speaking voice to be able to communicate with our hard of hearing population, ability to use computers and learn VISTA system. M-F; 9a -1p. Miami.

Audiology & Speech Pathology Service:

Patient Assistant – Volunteer will assistant Speech Pathologist in Speech Therapy. Must be patient, able to speak clearly and communicate with hearing impaired patients. M-F; 9a – 1p.

Miami Chief of Staff/ Medical Staff Office:

Clerical Assistant – Volunteer assist with filing, shredding, Xeroxing, scanning VetPro documents, sealing envelopes, preparing envelopes for mailing, errands to other Services within the hospital. Answer phones if needed. M-F; 9a – 4p (Flexible). Miami.

Dermatology Service:

Program Support Assistant - Volunteer will assist office staff with phones, copying, sending faxes, making deliveries within departments. Must be a people person with good customer service skills. M-F; 8a – 4p. Miami.

Human Resources Service:

File Clerk - Serves as a File Clerk in Human Resources Management Service (HRMS) and is concerned with files maintenance for Official Personnel Folders and VETPRO Folders. Work requires the application of established file methods, to include the filing or storage and retrieval of records, as well as knowledge of the organization and functions of the service. Uses a variety of office automation equipment to input and retrieve data; however, services of a qualified typist are not required. Training and OJT will be provided. M-F; 8a – 4p. Miami

Learning Resources Center/Patient Health Education:

Event Supporter – Volunteer will assist Program Coordinator with logistical support, mailing/distribution of promotional materials, phone calls and administrative events. Assist with set-up and tear down for program events. Must have a warm and friendly demeanor, ability to communicate, self-motivated to problem solve and follow tasks and directions. Ability to walk, light lifting, stretching, reaching, and bending. Monthly on Weekdays, 8a-5p (schedule of events). Miami.

Learning Resources Center/Patient Health Education:

Health & Wellness Buddies – Volunteer will serve as a workout partner to help motivate the veteran, on-call to help motivate their buddy, responsible for providing their buddy with health and wellness materials from various subject matter expert in an effort to help them lead a healthy lifestyle. Move Program graduate are highly desired. Will actively maintain a healthy weight and nutritional lifestyle; willing to be called by phone or meet with other people in the Healthier US Veterans Program. Days/Hours Open. Miami.

Learning Resources Center/Patient Health Education

: Healthier US Veterans Ambassador – Volunteer will be responsible for promoting Healthier US Veterans activities and initiatives to veterans service organizations and other local community groups, encourage veterans and their family members to establish and maintain behaviors that promote health and minimize risk of illness related to obesity and diabetes by sharing information identified by program coordinator. Individual who desires to fill this position maintains a strong line of communications with community organizations and informs them about the Healthier US Veterans Program activities and relay information to program coordinator. Days/Hours Open. Miami.

Medical Administration Service:

Clerk - Volunteer will answer phone calls, call patients, file charts, file loose paperwork, and general office duties. Must be dependable, good speaking voice, and English is required, physically able to some bending and lifting for filing of charts. M-F; 8a - 4:30p (flexible at least 4-6 hours/day). Hollywood Clinic or Pembroke Pines- Broward County.

Medical Administration Service:

File Clerk – Volunteer will file loose paperwork, scan paperwork into scanner, and assist in the office as necessary. Must be able to file forms in numerical order, light lifting, some bending required, and patient confidentiality is a must. M-F; 8a - 4:30p (days/hours negotiable).Key West Outpatient Clinic.

Medical Library – Library Aide- Data Entry:

Entering data in Excel and other applications. Must be acquainted with computers and willing to learn. Job entails details and some self motivation. M-F; 1 day/wk; 6 hours.

Miami Medical Staff Office/Chief of Staff:

-- Volunteer will assist the Medical Staff Office with logistical support, Xerox and scan documents, filing mailing/distribution of various letters, answer phone, contact applicants for additional information, etc. Assist with keeping office supplies in stock. Must have a ability to Communicate, self-motivated to problem solve and follow tasks and directions, ability to file alphabetically. . Ability to walk, light lifting, stretching, reaching, and bending. Weekdays - any time Monday-Friday between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm.

Nursing Service/Escort:

Patient Transporter – Volunteer will be transporting inpatients/outpatients to appointments and special procedures. Assist with the gathering of wheelchairs from East, West and South parking lot areas of the hospital. Must be able to walk long distances and push a wheelchair. Must be dependable, friendly, compassionate, patient confidentiality and patient oriented. M – F; Hours Open. Miami.

Nutrition & Food Service:

Snack Cart Host/Hostess – Volunteer will pick up snack cart from N&FS and deliver snacks, room to room, on the 2 units of the Nursing Home. Deliver 2PM labeled snacks and allow other patients to make choices within their diet order; dispense snacks and beverages; log items distributed; return cart to N&FS. M-F; 1:30pm-3:30pm in 2 hour shifts. Miami.

OUTPATIENT Substance Abuse Clinic (OSAC):

Kitchen & Day Activities Assistant – Volunteer must be an OSAC recovering patient. Volunteer will assist with breakfast, lunch and holiday parties; do light cleaning, be a role model to other patients, serve coffee. M – F; 7:30a – 1p. Miami.

OSAC (Not at VA) Pathology & Lab Medicine Service:

Laboratory Clerk – Volunteer will assist the Outpatient Lab staff with notifying patients when staff are ready for them. Serve as Mediator between the patients and staff to provide a good customer service. Must be respectful, patient oriented, able to follow directions and maintain patient confidentiality. M – F; 7:30a - 4p in 4 hour shifts. Miami.

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service:

Therapy Aide - Volunteer will assist staff in preparing hot/cold packs, change linens and restock supplies. Volunteer should have an interest in this field. Students in PT, AOT or PTA are strongly recommended. M-F; 8 a – 4 p in 4 hour shifts. Miami.

Police Service (Security Checkpoint):

Community Service Aide – Volunteer will assist with checking ID., patient/visitor contact; must be alert to surroundings and able to follow directions precisely. Must be responsible, able to work with others, and must possess good customer service skills, good communication skills and must be patient oriented. M-F; 7:30a - 4:30p in 4 hour shifts. Miami & Broward County Outpatient Clinic.

Prosthetic Treatment Center:

Clerk – Volunteer will answer phones, take messages and greet customers. Must be dependable, good speaking voice, able to follow directions and maintain patient confidentiality. M-F; 8:00a - 4:30p any 4 hours – 2-3 days. Miami.

Recreation Therapy:

Bingo Volunteer – Must be able to speak English clearly and call appropriate numbers or be able to assist in Bingo numbers. Volunteer will also assist in transporting residents to Bingo events. M-Sat; Open. Miami.

Recreation Therapy:

Fitness Volunteer – Volunteer will escort residents to Fitness program from 10:00 – 10:30am. Assisting staff members with set up and gathering of necessary supplies before group begins. Encouraging and cueing residents for fitness techniques and serving water at end of group. M, W, Th; 10a – 11:30a. Miami.

Recreation Therapy:

Friendly Visitor - Provide one to one social visitations with Veterans and occasionally assist with group activities and special events. M-Sun; Open/ Flexible. Miami

Recreation Therapy:

Horticulture Therapy Program - Seeking volunteers to fulfill two (2) needs in the Horticulture Therapy Program; Volunteers with gardening experience to help maintain the gardens. Additional needs are volunteers to take the garden bedside program to VA nursing home residents. A love of nature, a desire to serve our veterans and a commitment of six hours a month is all you need. M-F; Open/ Flexible. Miami.

Social Work Service/Homeless Program/HCHV:

Front Desk Assistant – Volunteer will assist homeless veterans, check-in to see Social Worker, distribute food, clothing, supplies, etc. As appropriate maintain “clothing closet” room during down-time. Assist Social Work Staff with tasks as appropriate, location Off-Station at Flagler Street. M – F; 8a - Noon. Miami.

Surgical Service:

Clerical Assistant - Volunteer will be in charge of notifying patients of clinic appointments. Volunteer will make notes of patients that reschedule or cancel appointments. Must have the ability to hear and speak English clearly. M-F; Open/ Flexible. Miami.

Voluntary Service:

Coffee Program – Seeking volunteer to serve coffee to our veteran patients. Responsible for preparing coffee pot, cleaning, checking supplies and replenishing as needed. Must be able to lift coffee supplies (5Lbs or less), and stand for extended periods of time. A professional appearance along with a cheerful and friendly attitude is required. Thursday & Friday, 7:30a - 1p. Broward County OPC.
